Trump Backs Netanyahu in Israel’s 27 October Election
US President Donald Trump has given his full backing to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the election due to be held on 27 October, saying Netanyahu would not disappoint.
“Let this letter serve as my full and complete endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his bid to be re-elected as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, AFP reported on Sunday (18 October 2026).
In his post, Trump described Netanyahu as a “great wartime prime minister” and an ally in the war against Iran. The conflict began in late February with a major air campaign. It has continued as Tehran retaliated by blocking global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said that without Netanyahu leading Israel, the United States would face the threat from Iran’s regime alone.
He referred to what he said was a slogan Iran had chanted for 51 years: “Death to Israel, death to America! We will destroy the Little Satan and the Great Satan.”
“If Israel has the wrong leader — anyone other than Bibi — America will have to handle this problem on its own, and I have no intention of doing that,” Trump said.
“This is the kind of partner the United States expects from Israel, a country America has helped a great deal,” he added.
Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, is facing a closely contested race as he seeks another mandate and quickly responded to Trump’s endorsement.
“Thank you, President Trump, for your tremendous support and our partnership. Together, we will complete this mission!” Netanyahu wrote on X.
