PRESIDENT of the United States Donald Trump stated that the United States military has launched large-scale combat operations in Iran to prevent threats to American national interests and those of its allies.

In a video posted on the Truth Social media platform and monitored in Jakarta on Saturday (28 February), Trump said the measure was taken to defend the American people by eliminating direct threats from the Iranian regime.

“Their threatening activities directly endanger the United States, our forces, our bases abroad, and our allies throughout the world,” Trump said.

Earlier that same day, it was reported that Israel had launched a preemptive strike against Iran. The strike was described as the second during Trump’s term of leadership following the first military action in June 2025.

Trump referenced Operation Midnight Hammer in June, which, according to him, destroyed Iran’s nuclear programme at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. He also warned Tehran against continuing the development of nuclear weapons.

According to Trump, Iran was attempting to rebuild its nuclear programme and continues to develop long-range missiles that were deemed capable of threatening partners and allies in Europe, US forces abroad, and even the territory of the United States itself.

“For this reason, the United States military has conducted large-scale and ongoing operations to prevent this evil radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests. We will destroy their missiles and devastate their missile industry,” he said.

“And we will ensure that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons. This is a very simple message. They will never have nuclear weapons,” Trump added.

Explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, after Israel and the US launched strikes on Saturday (28 February) morning. The US planned to conduct strikes over several days.

Iran officially closed its national airspace until further notice. Telephone networks in Tehran were cut off amid reports of Israeli pressure on Trump to act. Israel was on full alert in anticipation of retaliation.
