United States President Donald Trump has announced the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, describing him as a criminal. Khamenei was killed in a major attack by the US and Israel on Tehran.

“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is now dead,” Trump stated on his Truth Social media network on Sunday (1 March 2026), according to detikNews.

As reported, the US and Israel launched a massive assault on Iran on Saturday (28 February) morning Iran time. Khamenei’s residential complex in Tehran was reportedly struck by dozens of bombs.

“Approximately 30 bombs were dropped on the complex. Ali Khamenei was underground, but possibly not in his own bunker,” according to a report from Israeli Channel 12 cited by AFP.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement following the strike on Iran. Netanyahu claimed to have found signs indicating Khamenei was killed in the assault.

“This morning, in a devastating surprise attack, the residence complex of dictator Ali Khamenei was destroyed in the heart of Tehran… and there are many signs that this dictator is no longer alive,” Netanyahu said in a statement broadcast on television.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Red Crescent reported that at least 201 people have been killed and 747 wounded in the strikes by Israel and the US. However, Iran has not yet provided any statement regarding Khamenei’s death.
