Trump Angry When Asked if He Has Set Aside Nuclear Option for Iran

WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has dismissed the use of nuclear weapons against Iran and appeared angered when a reporter asked whether he had removed the nuclear option from consideration, calling the question “stupable”. It is noted that the US and Iran were once again involved in an exchange of attacks on Sunday (30/08/2026).

“I will not say that, but the answer is yes,” Trump said during an event at the White House in Washington on Monday.

“I have set it aside; there is no reason for it. What a stupid question, actually!”

Trump stated that Iran has been “totally defeated militarily”, making nuclear escalation unnecessary. He asserted that the US has defeated Iran.

“This is them, they are completely defeated,” Trump said.

“So I am now defeating them and now I have to use nuclear weapons to finish it? What a stupid question!”

On the same occasion, Trump stated that the US military does not rule out the possibility of attacking Iran again if necessary. Previously on Monday (31/08/2026), Axios reported that Trump was considering limited strikes against Iran to prevent the nation from restoring its military capabilities.

“Their leaders are mostly dead. Their Navy is gone. Their Air Force is gone. Their surveillance equipment is almost entirely destroyed. That does not mean we will not hit them. We shall see what happens,” Trump told the media.

The plan for limited strikes against Iran is aimed at reducing the risk of Iranian attacks on oil tankers as well as US Navy and Air Force assets in the region.

On Sunday, several explosions were reported on Larak Island, Iran, located in the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reported that the US had launched strikes allegedly targeting Iranian missile launchers on the island.

Iranian media subsequently reported that Tehran had fired missiles at US ships in the Strait of Hormuz and US bases in the region. US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that it had attacked Iran to prevent the nation’s forces from planting mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
