Trump and Netanyahu Resume Intense Communication: Will War with Iran Erupt Again?

Amidst a ceasefire described as an opportunity to open negotiation space between Washington and Tehran, the shadows of war are once again looming over the region. Tensions are escalating alongside intensifying political statements and a narrowing window for compromise, particularly concerning negotiation pathways, Iran’s nuclear programme, and the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.

Given the United States’ conditions, Iran’s threats of a harsh retaliation, and Israel’s state of readiness, the Middle East appears to be moving towards a new chapter of confrontation unless a tangible political breakthrough is achieved. On Sunday (17/05/202<0xA0>6), US President Donald Trump stated that the clock is ticking for Iran, and they must move very quickly, otherwise, nothing will be left of them.

Trump also warned that Iran would face much harder attacks if it does not present a better offer to reach an agreement, as reported by Axios and cited by Al Jazeera on Monday (18/05/2026). The report also cited American officials stating that Trump still prefers reaching a deal to end the war. However, Iran’s rejection of several Washington demands and its unwillingness to provide major concessions—especially regarding its nuclear programme—have caused military options to be reconsidered. According to officials, Trump is scheduled to hold a meeting in the White House Situation Room next Tuesday with top national security team members to discuss military action options against Iran, following a previous meeting held last Saturday.
