US President Donald Trump has once again claimed victory over Iran, amid his own fluctuating statements regarding the end of the war. On one hand, he states the conflict is nearly resolved; on the other, he opens the door to further attacks.

“I think we will end it. I cannot tell you for certain,” Trump said when speaking to reporters in the Oval Office at the White House, as reported by detikNews on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Claiming Victory, Attacking the Media

Trump asserted that the US has won the war against Iran. He also criticised the media for reporting that the conflict is worsening.

“You know, I don’t like saying this, we have won this, because this war has been won,” Trump emphasised.

“The only ones who want to prolong it are the fake news,” he stated.

Amid claims of victory, Trump mentioned that negotiations with Iran are ongoing. However, he did not rule out new attacks if the talks fail.

Trump repeatedly sent contrasting signals. At one moment, he said the negotiations could lead to the end of the war.

But at another, the US President stated that additional attacks could be launched against Iran.

In his statements on Tuesday (24/3), Trump revealed claims of US military dominance since the war began at the end of February.

“We don’t win a war where they have no navy and air force, and they have nothing, and we really have aeroplanes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country,” he claimed.

“They can’t do anything. For example, if I wanted to destroy that power plant, that very large and powerful power plant, they couldn’t do anything,” Trump said.

Trump also referred to the killing of Iranian leaders and the change in leadership during the war as “regime change”.

“This is really regime change because the leaders are very different from what we saw at the beginning,” he stated.

Shifting Statements

Trump’s statements on the end of the war have been recorded as changing several times in a short period. On 9 March, he described the war, which had lasted 10 days, as very conclusive, almost completely so.

However, just a few hours later, he issued a different statement.

“We have won in many ways, but we haven’t won it enough.”
