Trump Admits He Still Wants to Reach a Deal with Iran

Washington - US President Donald Trump has said he still wants to reach a deal with Iran. “I would prefer to make a deal because I don’t want to hurt people, I don’t want to kill people. But at some point, we will. We have prepared the biggest attack and we have hit them very hard in recent months. We were ready to launch the biggest attack since World War II. Then they called me and said, ‘Please don’t do it. Let’s talk.’ But then they didn’t. They then said they never said that,” Trump told his supporters in Las Vegas. Trump assessed that Iran respects the United States. “We’ll see what happens,” he said. On Sunday, Trump said he had called off a planned strike on Iran because there was still a chance to reach a settlement deal that had not been finalised. Broadly, the deal includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and resolving the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme. The New York Times reported that the draft agreement includes a provision for Iran and Oman to reach an agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz within 60 days.
