Trump admits having candidates for a 'good leader' for Iran

Istanbul (ANTARA) – United States President Donald Trump, on Thursday (5 March), said he wants the structure of Iran’s leadership removed and claimed he has several candidates who could become a ‘good leader’ for the country. ‘We want to go in and clean everything out,’ Trump told NBC News by telephone. He stressed that he did not want a ‘would-be leader’ who would rebuild Iran within ten years. Trump said he has several people who could lead Iran, but he declined to name them. He added that he is taking steps to ensure those on the ‘watch list’ will be safe from war. ‘We are watching them, yes,’ he added. When asked who might lead Iran in the future, Trump admitted he was not sure yet. However, Trump quipped that Iranian officials might one day contact him to ask for his choice, he said with a touch of sarcasm. Trump also responded to remarks by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who told NBC Nightly News that Iran is prepared to face the possibility of a ground invasion by US and Israeli forces. Trump called Araghchi’s comments ‘a waste’ because he stressed he would not consider a ground invasion. He also pledged that the tempo and intensity of attacks would continue. ‘It’s a waste of time. They (Iran) have lost everything. They have lost their navy. They have lost everything they could lose,’ he said.
