Trump Acknowledges Iran's Military Capability Despite US Strikes

Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump acknowledged on Thursday (23 July) that Iran still maintains its military capability despite having been the target of American attacks.

“They (Iran) are tough, and they are smart, and they still have some of their capability,” Trump told the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

However, Trump rejected reports from several American media outlets claiming that Tehran is now in a stronger position compared to four months ago.

He added that, in his view, the situation for the United States was developing better than anyone had anticipated.

On the night of 18 June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum establishing the cessation of a conflict that had begun on 28 February.

However, since 8 July, the United States has carried out a series of attacks against Iran.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were a response to Iran’s actions against commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian forces then retaliated by launching attacks on a number of American military bases in the Middle East region.

Trump said that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was no longer in effect.
