Trump Accuses Iran of Attempting Attack on Indian Ships in Strait of Hormuz

Washington - President of the United States Donald Trump on Friday accused Iran of attempting to attack Indian commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the action as unacceptable. “In addition, their failed drone attack last night on Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz is totally unacceptable. They had better fix their behaviour, and fast!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump’s statement followed a Fox News report, citing a senior US defence official, that Iran had allegedly launched several drones at vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. “It appears Iran attempted to attack commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz tonight. US forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones. Traffic flow in the Strait of Hormuz remains unimpeded,” the official said. Last week, India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Jason Mix, the US chargé d’affaires in New Delhi, to lodge a strong protest over American strikes on commercial ships carrying Indian crew members in the Gulf of Oman. On Thursday, US Central Command stated that American forces had disabled a Guinea-Bissau-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Oman for violating a blockade against Iran. In late February, the United States and Israel launched military aggression by striking several targets in Iran, including Tehran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties. A formal ceasefire was announced on 7 April, but the US continues to blockade Iranian ports and waters, while Iran has imposed special transit rules through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, negotiations between Iran and the US are ongoing, with both sides attempting to agree on a draft framework for a memorandum of understanding, even as sporadic attacks continue.
