Truck Stuck Under Tendean Footbridge Not Yet Evacuated: Heavy Traffic, Crane Required
A truck carrying heavy equipment that became stuck under a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta, has yet to be evacuated. The evacuation process will be carried out after the morning commute to avoid disrupting traffic.
“We have also coordinated with the Highways Department and I am making efforts so that once people have gone to work around 9 a.m., we will survey the scene and attempt the evacuation,” said Kompol Robby Hefados, Head of the Binopsnal Unit at Polda Metro Jaya’s Traffic Directorate, on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
Roby stated that the truck transporting heavy equipment became stuck under the footbridge at 1 a.m. local time early this morning. The evacuation process requires a crane.
“Because it involves the footbridge, we must bring in a crane. Traffic is still heavy now, so it cannot be evacuated yet; the focus remains on traffic management and waiting for the relevant agencies,” he added.
The accident has caused traffic congestion. Officers will implement traffic engineering measures at 8.30 a.m. local time in preparation for the evacuation process. Vehicles from Jalan Warung Buncit, Jalan Gatot Subroto, or Kuningan heading towards Blok M will be reduced.
“People heading towards Senopati can choose alternative routes; we are diverting them to Warung Buncit, and from Warung Buncit we are directing them to turn left. Traffic flow from Gatot Subroto is being reduced to ease congestion,” he said.
“Vehicles from Jalan Kapten Tendean are being restricted from ascending the flyover, so people from Kapten Tendean heading towards Blok M are being directed to Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya up to Warung Buncit, then to make a U-turn at the nearest turning point and turn left back onto Tendean,” he continued.
Initial Suspicions of the Accident
The accident occurred at midnight, around 12.30 a.m. local time. The truck with the registration number B-9077-UFU was initially travelling along the Jalan Kapten Tendean area. The accident is suspected to have begun when the driver was using a mobile phone while driving.
“The driver of the heavy equipment towing vehicle did not account for the maximum height of the load,” read a statement from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
Upon arriving at the location, the truck driver reportedly saw the footbridge. However, because he was allegedly playing with his mobile phone while driving, the driver did not account for the height of the load he was carrying until it eventually became stuck under the bridge.
“The driver saw the footbridge but was unaware because he was focused on his mobile phone,” the BPBD wrote.
“As a result of not accounting for the maximum height of the load, the unit being transported struck the footbridge, causing severe damage to the structure,” the BPBD stated.
