Truck Stuck Under Tendean Footbridge Evacuated After 12 Hours

The evacuation of a heavy equipment transport truck that became stuck under the Kapten Tendean pedestrian bridge (JPO) in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, was completed on Tuesday afternoon after a 12-hour operation. The incident, which began in the early hours of Tuesday, caused significant damage to the bridge structure when a drilling excavator being transported on a towing truck struck the overpass. The collision resulted in the partial collapse of the bridge’s steel frame and roof, with support pillars tilting and resting precariously on the wedged equipment. The intensive evacuation involved coordinated efforts from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the police, the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, and the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency. Personnel worked cautiously to prevent further structural collapse, using large-capacity mobile cranes to lift the damaged bridge materials and free the trapped truck. The incident caused total traffic paralysis in the Mampang and Kuningan areas during the morning rush hour, prompting the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate to implement traffic diversions to manage congestion stretching to Simpang Kuningan and Warung Buncit. The police have secured the truck driver, identified by the initials JAS, 29, for questioning. Authorities have stated that the incident serves as a critical reminder for logistics operators to ensure route mapping and compliance with vehicle height clearances on Jakarta’s infrastructure.
