Truck Queues at Ketapang Port Decrease from 16 Kilometres to 7 Kilometres
The long queue of logistics vehicles heading towards Ketapasting Port, Banyuwangi, East Java, has begun to disperse. After previously stretching to approximately 16 kilometres, the queue length has now decreased by more than half to around 7 kilometres.
General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ketapang Branch, Media Syahrianto, stated that this situation represents the latest development in managing vehicle congestion in the port area. “However, today the queue of logistics trucks, in particular, has decreased to about 7 kilometres,” he said in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Saturday, 5 September 2026.
This reduction in queue length occurred after ASDP implemented several measures to accelerate vehicle movement within the Ketapang Port area. Previously, on Friday night, the logistics truck queue had reached approximately 16 kilometres. This congestion occurred amidst a 16 per cent increase in logistics vehicle volume compared to the same period in the previous month.
To accelerate the dispersal of the queue, ASDP has optimised ship operations and strengthened coordination with regulators and relevant stakeholders. These efforts are being undertaken to ensure that crossing services on the Ketapang, Banyuwangi–Gilimanuk, Bali route continue to operate while prioritising the safety and comfort of service users.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all service users in facing this condition, and ASDP is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that crossing services remain as optimal as possible,” said Media.
On Saturday, 24 large-capacity ships were operated to increase vehicle carrying capacity. Of that number, six ships implemented the ‘arrive-unload-depart’ (TBB) pattern. This pattern is applied to speed up the loading and unloading process while simultaneously reducing the time ships spend at the pier.
Vehicle congestion also coincided with projects to repair and increase the capacity of the piers on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route. The project includes increasing the capacity to 50 tonnes for one pair of piers in Ketapang, Banyuwangi, and Gilimanuk, Bali.
This infrastructure work is part of an effort to strengthen facilities and prepare for the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year transport period. Through the operation of large-capacity ships and the implementation of the TBB pattern, ASDP continues to strive to disperse vehicle queues that previously reached double-digit kilometres.
