Truck Gets Stuck on Tendean Footbridge, Driver Suspected of Using Mobile Phone
A truck transporting heavy equipment became stuck under a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta. The accident is suspected to have occurred because the driver was using his mobile phone while driving.
“The driver of the heavy equipment towing vehicle did not calculate the maximum height of the load,” the Jakarta BPBD stated when contacted on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
The accident happened at half past midnight. The truck, with registration number B-9077-UFU, was initially travelling along the Kapten Tendean road area. Upon arriving at the location, the driver saw the JPO. However, because he was allegedly playing with his mobile phone while driving, the driver did not calculate the height of the load he was carrying until it eventually got stuck on the JPO.
“The driver saw the JPO but was unaware because he was focused on his handphone,” the Jakarta BPBD wrote. “As a result, because he did not calculate the maximum height of the unit being transported, it got caught on the JPO, causing severe damage to the bridge.”
Based on documentation received from the Jakarta BPBD, the truck carrying an excavator was seen in the middle of the road. The hard impact from the truck caused severe damage to the JPO’s support structure. One of the bridge’s support pillars appeared almost collapsed. The collision rendered the stairs of the JPO unusable.
