Truck drivers probed over robbery

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Police here are questioning a truck driver and his assistant over an alleged involvement in a robbery that cost their company 600 sacks of cement.

Banyumas Police Chief Lt. Col. Johnny Hutahuruk told Antara on Sunday that the driver, identified as Untung, and his co-driver Sofyan were under police custody, following information from various sources which led to the truck crew's alleged involvement.

The truck was robbed during the early hours of Friday in Slawi, some 70 kilometers north of here, on its way from Cirebon, West Java, to Blora, Central Java. Both Untung and Sofyan were found by villagers in Pemalang, 50 kilometers from the scene of the robbery.

Johnny said the truck had left Cirebon on Tuesday. Normally, it takes a driver up to eight hours to reach Blora from the West Java coastal town.
