Truck Driver Who Crashed into Stall in Cirebon, Killing Three, Named Suspect

The Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the Cirebon Police has named a mineral water truck driver, identified by the initials AS, as a suspect in the accident on the Gronggong incline along the Cirebon-Kuningan road in Cirebon Regency, West Java, which killed three people.

Head of the Cirebon Police Satlantas AKP Yudha Satyo Rahardjo said the suspect was named after investigators completed their inquiry and investigation into the case.

“The truck driver with the initials AS in the accident on the Gronggong incline has been named a suspect,” Yudha said in Cirebon on Friday, 24 July 2026.

He said the suspect was charged under Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transport for alleged negligence causing the death of others.

According to him, investigators are still completing the case file and examining a number of factors believed to be related to the cause of the accident for the purposes of the legal process.

Yudha said the initial technical inspection carried out by the Cirebon Regency Transportation Office (Dishub) together with the Cirebon Police Satlantas had not yet been able to confirm suspected brake failure as the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, Diyanto, Functional Policy Analyst for Motor Vehicle Testing at the Cirebon Regency Dishub, said the inspection found that the vehicle’s air tank was used simultaneously for both the braking system and the horn.

“However, the results of that inspection are not yet sufficient to conclude the main cause of the accident, so further examination is needed, including matching the vehicle’s technical condition with the driver’s testimony,” said Diyanto.

He explained that several of the truck’s tyres were no longer roadworthy, as the tyre wires were visible. Nevertheless, the vehicle’s steering system was still functioning normally.

Diyanto added that, based on the crime scene reconstruction, the driver admitted the truck began to lose control about 120 metres before crashing into a food stall on the Cirebon-Kuningan main road in Ciperna village, Talun subdistrict.

Based on the information gathered, the accident on 13 July 2026 resulted in the deaths of EAK, his wife NIP, and their seven-month-old baby.

Meanwhile, the couple’s daughter was the only member of the family to survive. She suffered serious injuries and is still recovering.
