Truck Driver Who Crashed into Stall in Cirebon, Killing Three, Named Suspect

The Traffic Unit of the Cirebon Police have named AS, the driver of a truck carrying mineral water, as a suspect in the accident on the Gronggong incline on the Cirebon-Kuningan road in Cirebon Regency, West Java, which killed three people. Head of the Cirebon Police Traffic Unit, AKP Yudha Satyo Rahardjo, said the suspect was named after investigators completed the inquiry and investigation into the case. “The truck driver with the initials AS in the accident on the Gronggong incline has been named a suspect,” Yudha said in Cirebon on Friday, 24 July 2026. He said the suspect is charged under Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation for alleged negligence resulting in the death of others. According to him, investigators are still completing the case file and examining a number of factors suspected to be related to the cause of the accident for the purposes of the legal process. Yudha said the initial technical inspection conducted by the Cirebon Regency Transportation Agency together with the Cirebon Police Traffic Unit could not yet confirm the suspicion of brake failure as the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, Diyanto, a Policy Analysis Functional Officer for Motor Vehicle Testing at the Cirebon Regency Transportation Agency, said the inspection found that the vehicle’s air tank was used simultaneously for the braking system and the horn. “However, the results of the inspection are not yet sufficient to conclude the main cause of the accident, so further examination is needed, including matching the vehicle’s technical condition with the driver’s statement,” Diyanto said. He explained that several tyres on the truck were unroadworthy as the steel belts were visible. Nevertheless, the vehicle’s steering system was still functioning normally. Diyanto added that based on the crime scene investigation, the driver claimed the truck began to lose control about 120 metres before it crashed into a stall on the Cirebon-Kuningan main road in Ciperna Village, Talun District. According to data gathered, the accident on 13 July 2026 resulted in the deaths of EAK, his wife NIP, and their seven-month-old baby. The couple’s other daughter was the sole survivor of the family. The victim suffered serious injuries and is still recovering.
