Truck Driver Who Caused Man to Cling to Vehicle in Cibubur Arrested

Police have responded swiftly to a viral incident involving a collision that escalated into an assault, resulting in a man clinging to a box truck in Cibubur, East Jakarta. The perpetrator has now been taken into custody. “The perpetrator has been arrested,” said AKP Made Budi, Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, to reporters on Saturday (27/6/2026). Made explained that the suspect, identified by the initials MY, was traced after police identified the box truck with licence plate number B-9437-TEV as belonging to a logistics company. Based on information from the owner of the logistics company, the truck was being driven by MY at the time. Police subsequently apprehended MY at 10.00 Western Indonesia Time this morning. “The Ciracas Police Criminal Investigation Unit, led by the unit head, coordinated to identify the driver, and the driver’s identity was successfully established. Following this, the suspect MY was secured and taken to the Ciracas Police station for further investigation,” Made clarified. MY is currently undergoing questioning at the Ciracas Police station. Police are still investigating the motive behind the driver fleeing the scene after the collision. The incident was previously reported to have gone viral, showing a man clinging to the door of a box truck after a verbal altercation in the Cibubur area, East Jakarta. The event occurred on Wednesday (24/6) at around 17.14 Western Indonesia Time. Made explained that the incident began with a minor collision which resulted in damage to a Toyota Innova after it was hit by the truck. The male passenger of the Innova then chased the truck driver but was subsequently assaulted. “A crime scene investigation was conducted following a report to the National Police’s 110 call centre regarding a vehicle collision. The complainant chased the vehicle and was subjected to violence, sustaining severe head injuries suspected to have been caused by a hammer,” Made stated in a release on Friday (26/6). The victim was seen clinging to the truck as it headed towards the Cibubur Toll Road. The driver of the Innova, who is the wife of the man clinging to the truck, pursued the vehicle onto the toll road. Upon arriving at the Cibubur 2 Toll Gate, the wife attempted to block the truck. However, the truck managed to escape, prompting the victim’s wife to scream for help.
