Truck Crashes into TransJakarta Bus Shelter in Tebet, Driver Flees Scene

The TransJakarta bus shelter at Tebet Eco Park in South Jakarta was damaged after being struck by a truck on Thursday (25/6) at around 2:55 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. The driver fled the scene immediately following the incident. Despite the damage, services for passengers are continuing to operate.

According to a witness, the incident occurred while they were working at the ticket counter. At the same time, a truck was passing through the shelter area. “The roof got caught on a loaded truck, because the regular lane was closed due to road resurfacing work and all vehicles were diverted into the bus lane,” said AKBP Ojo Ruslani, Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, on Thursday.

After the incident, the witness, a Transjakarta officer, immediately went outside to check the situation. However, at the same moment, the truck that caused the collision sped away. “The truck that hit the shelter canopy immediately stepped on the gas and fled the location,” Ojo stated.

As a result of the incident, the shelter’s ceiling was damaged. Additionally, damage occurred to the automatic doors, the shelter’s glass panels were shattered, and the gate was rendered inoperable. Ojo said that his team is currently investigating the incident, including working to identify the truck. “We are currently checking the CCTV footage,” he said.

Separately, Ayu Wardhani, Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta, stated that the company is currently repairing the damage to the shelter. However, she confirmed that the shelter can still be used to serve passengers. “The Tebet Eco Park shelter heading towards Pluit can still serve customers, and Transjakarta services passing through the shelter are operating normally, prioritising customer safety and comfort,” she said.
