A truck driver died after being crushed by his own vehicle following a chain collision on Wednesday, 11 March, in Surodadi Village, Gringsing District, Batang Regency. Three vehicles were involved in the accident in Batang after a large truck was parked on the roadside.

The collision in Batang involved two cargo vehicles and a sedan. All three vehicles were parked on the shoulder of the Pantura road between Semarang and Batang whilst their drivers rested during their journey to Jakarta.

“We were shocked after hearing a fairly loud crash. When we came out of the food stall, there were two trucks and a sedan colliding, even though all three vehicles were parked to rest,” said Tamrin, a visitor at a food stall near the scene.

As a result of the vehicle being parked on the roadside, the driver of the articulated truck numbered B 9492 JEH died at the scene with severe injuries after being struck by his own truck before it struck two other parked vehicles.

Head of the Batang Police Traffic Unit, AKP Eka Hendra Ardiansyah, stated that the chain collision in Batang began when articulated truck B 9492 JEH stopped on the south shoulder of the road, facing west on a slightly uphill stretch.

After parking the truck, the driver—identified as Andriansyah, 22, from Cileunyi Wetan, Bandung Regency—descended from the cab. The parked truck then rolled backwards, crushing him.

The reversing articulated truck subsequently struck another truck numbered B-9136-BYU that was also parked behind it, pushing it onto the road median. The truck then hit a factory fence along the Pantura route.

Eka Hendra Ardiansyah added that the truck also struck a white sedan numbered G-1467-DC that was also parked behind it. “After evacuating the victim to hospital and the three vehicles, we are still investigating the case to determine why the truck rolled backwards whilst parked,” he said.
