Truck carrying construction iron overturns on Tomang flyover, causing heavy traffic
A truck carrying construction iron overturned on the Tomang flyover in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday, causing traffic congestion into the afternoon as its load spilled onto the arterial road below. The incident occurred around 04:30 WIB, when the truck transporting iron from the Jakarta-Tangerang Toll Road towards Tanjung Priok tipped over on the Tomang Toll Road flyover, with part of its cargo falling onto the road beneath, according to West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang. Although there were no casualties, the spillage of dozens of tonnes of construction iron obstructed traffic in the vicinity, forcing police officers to temporarily divert vehicles. Hafiz explained that large vehicles normally use the Tomang flyover lane towards Grogol, but due to the spilled iron, all traffic was redirected to the lower road towards the Tomang traffic light, causing congestion on Jalan S. Parman from Slipi to Tomang. The truck was evacuated shortly after the incident using a crane from Jasa Marga, but the recovery of the dozens of tonnes of spilled construction iron was still underway by midday. Police continued to manage the resulting traffic congestion, while the case investigation was being handled by the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. Head of Operations Development Unit AKP Sudarmo added that the truck is suspected to have overturned because its securing strap broke, causing the load to spill onto the Kebon Jeruk toll road towards Grogol and the Tomang Flyover arterial road. Observations at the scene at 09:30 WIB showed the toll road barrier fence had collapsed under the weight of the spilled iron, with the fence-shaped construction iron piled up on both the toll road and the arterial road.
