Truck Carrying 15-Tonne Container Plunges onto Road Divider in Cakung, Driver Suspected of Dozing Off

A container truck carrying more than 15 tonnes plunged onto a road divider and nearly overturned. The accident occurred on Jalan Raya Bekasi, Cakung, East Jakarta.

“It happened at around 05:00 Western Indonesia Time. The truck was carrying 15 tonnes and just plunged in,” said a local resident, Steven (35), at the scene, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

The incident is believed to have been caused by the truck driver, who was drowsy and panicked whilst trying to avoid a vehicle in front of him.

“The driver was reportedly sleepy, then he tried to avoid a vehicle ahead of him, and ended up plunging off the road,” Steven explained.

The container truck had been travelling from Pulogadung towards Bekasi. The rear of the truck left the carriageway and plunged down, leaving the vehicle tilted with its front section lifted.

Shortly afterwards, Steven said, officers and tow trucks arrived to evacuate the truck.

“Two tow trucks couldn’t manage it because the load is 15 tonnes, so earlier they were waiting for another truck,” Steven said.

There were no casualties from the incident. Traffic activity on Jalan Bekasi Raya was disrupted for a time.

Road users passing through the area had to slow down because the truck remained on the road.

When contacted separately, the Head of the Traffic Accident Unit at the East Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Darwis Yunarta, said the truck had been evacuated and traffic had returned to normal.

“The evacuation process is complete. The truck can continue its journey,” Darwis said.
