Tropical Cyclone Seed 92W Triggers Significant Weather Across Indonesian Regions

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that Tropical Cyclone Seed 92W, monitored in the Philippine Sea east of the Philippines and north of Southwest Papua, is triggering significant weather conditions in a number of regions. “The cyclone seed has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone within the moderate to high category in the next 48 to 72 hours,” said BMKG Forecaster Miftah Ali in a weather forecast broadcast monitored from Sebatik on Thursday. Miftah Ali stated that the cyclone seed has a minimum pressure of around 1,004 hectopascals, a maximum wind speed of 25 knots, and is moving northwestward. The system’s presence is forming areas of convergence and confluence along the eastern coast of the Philippines, the Philippine Sea, the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines, the Sulawesi Sea, and around the centre of the cyclone seed. BMKG also noted unstable local atmospheric conditions across most of Indonesia. These conditions increase the potential for rain cloud growth, particularly around the cyclone seed and along the convergence and confluence zones. BMKG forecasts that rain accompanied by lightning may occur in Tanjung Pinang and Tanjung Selor. Meanwhile, light rain is expected in Medan, Pangkal Pinang, Serang, and most areas of Kalimantan Island. Cloudy to heavily cloudy conditions are forecast to cover Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Bengkulu, Palembang, and most of Java Island. Hazy conditions are expected in Bandar Lampung, while fog or smoke is possible in Padang and Jambi. In eastern Indonesia, light rain is forecast for Mamuju, Palu, Manado, Ambon, and Wamena. Cloudy to heavily cloudy weather is expected in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Merauke. BMKG urged the public to monitor weather information updates through the agency’s official website and social media channels to anticipate potential extreme weather.
