The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected the movement of Tropical Cyclone Jangmi in the northern Philippine Sea, increasing the potential for rainfall across various regions of Indonesia. The phenomenon is triggering the formation of convergence zones and rain cloud development over the next few days.

BMKG forecaster Henokvita stated that Tropical Cyclone Jangmi currently has maximum wind speeds of 35 knots and a minimum pressure of 998 hectopascals (hPa). The weather system is expected to move northwest and continue strengthening over the next 48 to 72 hours.

“It is predicted to move northwest and continue strengthening over the next 48 to 72 hours. This cyclone is inducing convergence and confluence zones in the northern Pacific Ocean, North Maluku, and northern Papua,” Henokvita said in BMKG’s weather broadcast last weekend.

In addition to Tropical Cyclone Jangmi, BMKG has detected cyclonic circulation in the South China Sea, forming convergence zones extending to the Natuna Islands. These conditions are enhancing rain cloud development across several parts of Indonesia.

BMKG noted the formation of a convergence belt stretching from Papua to Cenderawasih Bay, Southeast Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Central Java. The combination of these atmospheric phenomena increases the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas.

BMKG also warned of potential strong winds in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as atmospheric activity intensifies.

In western Indonesia, thunderstorms are likely in Jambi, Banjarmasin, and Tanjung Selor. Meanwhile, Jakarta, Banda Aceh, Palembang, and Surabaya are forecast to have heavily overcast conditions.

In eastern Indonesia, light rain is expected in Palu, Kendari, Ternate, Ambon, and Merauke. Gorontalo may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

BMKG urged the public to remain vigilant against potential extreme weather, particularly in areas likely to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the coming days.
