Troops shoot two members of armed group in southern Thailand

Narathiwat (ANTARA) - A number of joint security forces conducting a pursuit in southern Thailand have shot dead two individuals suspected to be members of an armed group following a gunfight in the Tawe Mountains.

The joint forces, consisting of the armed forces and police units, launched an operation targeting insurgent groups in Toh Leng Village, Cho-airong District, Narathiwat Province, TNA news agency reported on Friday.

While conducting searches in the dense forest, the joint forces discovered two bodies.

According to statements from the joint forces, both suspects are believed to have been involved in an attack on the Buke Sami post in Rangae District on 22 July 2026.

The two are also suspected of carrying out a bombing at a PTT petrol station in Rangae District on 10 January 2026.

Security personnel at the discovery site have seized M16 rifles along with ammunition, pipe bombs, explosive components, backpacks, and logistical supplies.

Several high-ranking provincial officials have also visited the hospital to assist the families of the deceased with religious funeral rites.
