TRK Holding Explores Rp87 Trillion HPAL Cobalt Smelter Investment with Chinese Partner
PT TRK Holding has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting nickel industry downstreaming and strengthening the national battery ecosystem. In a strategic meeting held at BNI Codae Jakarta on 23 May 2025, TRK Holding explored a partnership to construct an HPAL cobalt smelter with Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holdings Group, a Chinese company.
The meeting was attended by Investment Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid, and TRK Holding CEO H. Najmuddin.
Investment Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani expressed his appreciation for TRK Holding's efforts in bringing new investment to Indonesia. "We greatly value this effort. This investment will have a significant impact on the national economy, particularly in supporting the downstreaming programme and strengthening the battery industry," he said.
TRK Holding CEO H. Najmuddin added that the Indonesian government is highly supportive of the project's realisation. "We see the government being very respectful and open to the development of this HPAL cobalt facility. The investment we are exploring with our Chinese partner is valued at approximately Rp87 trillion. The focus will be on Central Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi," he said.
Najmuddin expressed optimism that the investment would support President Prabowo Subianto's strategic programme to drive mineral downstreaming and create extensive employment opportunities for the public. "We want this investment to deliver great benefits for the nation and the country," he emphasised.
Meanwhile, Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid declared his region's readiness to support the realisation of this investment. "Central Sulawesi is open to supporting companies that invest here. Moreover, HPAL cobalt is greatly needed by the world for the battery sector," he said.
