Trisakti Students Remain Outside DPR Building into the Night

An alliance of students from the Trisakti University Student Presidency continues to hold their ground in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building to express their opinions.

Based on information gathered on the ground, as of 6:32 PM WIB, a number of students were still delivering orations. The atmosphere of the protest was observed to be orderly, with several police officers remaining on standby around the DPR/MPR RI building area.

Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, the road in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building, remains closed by the police to prevent traffic congestion. A total of 4,263 joint personnel have been deployed to secure the demonstrations across five locations in the Central Jakarta area.

“The service for protest actions in the Central Jakarta area involves 4,26<0xA0>33 joint personnel (Polda, Polres, and sub-district police),” said the Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, in Jakarta on Friday.

Erlyn stated that thousands of joint personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, Central Jakarta Metro Police, and sub-district police units are on standby to escort the protests to ensure they proceed safely and orderly. The masses were scheduled to take to the streets at five points: Monas South Square, DPR/MPR, Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, Tugu Tani, and the Ministry of Finance.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro stated that his unit held a security briefing at Ikada Field. Police apparatus immediately responded to the planned demonstrations, with the Central Jakarta Police prepared to secure the area by deploying over 6,000 personnel.

The TNI and Polri have tightened security at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta. They have erected soldier tents and stationed tactical vehicles.

Laskar Trisakti 08 has firmly declared its rejection of the TNI Bill, demanding that the TNI return to its original dignity.
