Trisakti Student President: We Are Not Seeking an Audience with Dasco, We Are Demanding Promises Be Kept
The Student President of Trisakti University has spoken out regarding the offer from Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, to meet with their representatives during a demonstration at the DPR building in Central Jakarta this afternoon, 19 June 2026. Trisakti University Student President Dhenni Ribowo stated that the Trisakti mass action is not to meet with the DPR, but to demand they honour their promise of siding with the people. “We are not here for an audience. We are here to demand the seriousness of the council’s promise, which claims to side with the people,” Dhenni said when contacted on Friday, 19 June 2026. According to Dhenni, amidst the many problems afflicting society, it is inappropriate for the DPR to side with the government. He said he would welcome the DPR if they wished to meet, provided they are serious about giving real answers to the people’s problems. “If not, I believe our criticism and oversight will continue,” he said. Previously, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the student demonstration centred at the DPR on Friday, 19 June 2026, was legitimate. He mentioned that the DPR leadership planned to meet and hold an audience with student representatives. “Tomorrow there is indeed a plan to be received by the DPR leadership,” the Gerindra Party politician said at the DPR building, Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026. Dasco has not yet disclosed exactly when the meeting will be held. The identities of the students in question have also not been mentioned. From the consolidation results at Trisakti University, a mass of students from six educational units within Trisakti University will take to the streets. The six Trisakti educational units include the Trisakti Institute of Transportation and Logistics (ITL), Trisakti School of Insurance Management (STMA), Trisakti School of Media Communication (STMK), Trisakti Institute of Tourism (IPT), Trisakti School of Management (TSM), and Trisakti School of Economics (STEI). The Trisakti student action at the DPR this afternoon was uploaded via social media accounts, such as BEM FH Trisakti and BEM STMA Trisakti. The protest action is scheduled to take place at 1:30 PM with three main demands. The students are calling for economic and political recovery, the eradication of incompetent officials, and a push to restore civilian supremacy. “BEM FH Trisakti University invites all students and elements of society to attend and voice their aspirations,” read the caption of the post on the @bem.fh.trisaksih account. According to the Trisakti student alliance, the demonstration is a form of oversight of state policy and ensuring the upholding of democratic values.
