Trisakti hails 33rd anniversary

JAKARTA (JP): Trisakti University celebrated its 33rd anniversary on its campus in Grogol, West Jakarta, on Sunday as it held various social and family-atmosphere activities.

The privately university rector, Thoby Mutis, said that such activities were needed as " relief for students who are 'stressed' owing to the recent unfavorable political conditions".

He said that the activities, which included a charity bazaar and a singing and marching contest, were expected to provide "entertainment" for the students and the alumni.

Trisakti students have been among student groups staging street demonstrations which have occurred almost every day in the city.

According to one of the celebration's chairpersons, Cahaya D.R. Sinaga, Sunday's activities were part of a series of activities, including seminars, starting on Thursday.

"All of the earnings from the bazaar will be used to procure staple food to be donated to the needy," she said.

Sunday's activities also involved 600 orphans from 10 orphanages in the city. The orhans joined in clowning, and drawing and singing contests. (ind)
