Trisakti embarrassed by brawls

JAKARTA: Trisakti University held a seminar on conflict resolution for its lecturers on Wednesday amid concerns of frequent student brawls on campus.

"The discussion was aimed at synchronizing the lecturers' common perception to handle student melees in a comprehensive manner," said the university spokesperson Hasijani H. Wahjono.

The discussion featured criminologist Adrianus Meliala from the University of Indonesia and psychologist Ahmad Gimmy Prathama Siswadi of Padjadjaran University in Bandung as panelists.

Both panelists highlighted the need for lecturers to hone their skills in managing conflicts which are frequent occurrences in most schools.

The university reportedly suspended several students following an ugly brawl last month. The brawl, triggered by an argument over a parking space, resulted in the injuries of three students and left six cars damaged. --JP
