Trips to Tourist and Culinary Cities by Train Increase During Long Weekend

KOMPAS.com - The number of train passengers has increased during the long weekend commemorating Ascension Day from 14th May 2026 to 17th May 2026.

In the first three days of the long weekend, from 14th to 16th May 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that as many as 554,407 passengers had used its long-distance and local train services on Java and Sumatra islands.

“The long weekend always brings about very dynamic population movement. We see a significant increase in travel to tourist cities, culinary centres, and educational areas,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, in an official statement on Saturday (16th May 2026).

The total number of tickets sold from 14th to 17th May 2026 reached 861,926 and is expected to continue increasing during the long holiday period.
