Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — Trinasolar, a global leader in smart PV solutions and energy storage, has been chosen as the supplier of i-TOPCon Vertex N n-type solar modules, with power outputs of 730–735W, for the Dầu Tiếng 5 floating solar and energy storage project in Tây Ninh Province, Vietnam. The project features a capacity of 450 MWac and 562 MWdc.

Developed by DT5.1 Energy JSC, a subsidiary of Xuan Cau Holdings, the Dầu Tiếng 5 project began construction on 4 August 202’6 [sic] and is targeted to enter the commercial operation phase in December 2027. The project is expected to generate approximately 808 GWh of clean electricity annually to support Vietnam’s national power system.

Dầu Tiếng 5 continues Trinasolar’s track record with floating solar projects in Vietnam. In 2020, Trinasolar supplied 210 bifacial Vertex modules for the 50.6 MW Dầm Trà Ổ floating solar plant in Bình Định Province. Now, through Dầu Tiếng 5, Trinasolar is once again involved in a Vietnamese floating solar project, this time on a much larger scale using n-type i-TOPCon technology-based Vertex N modules.

The Dầu Tiếng 5 project is situated in a semi-submerged area of the Dầu Tiếng Lake. Due to the humid and wet environment of the site, Trinasolar’s Vertex N (NEG21C.20) modules, which produce 730–735W, utilise a low-voltage design with higher string power. This technology reduces the total number of modules required and optimises the balance of system for the floating solar plant. Featuring a bifacial dual-glass design with 80±5% bifaciality, these modules can capture solar radiation from the rear side to increase energy production from the available project area. Furthermore, the dual-glass construction and independently verified resistance to potential-induced degradation (PID) ensure long-term reliability in the project’s operational environment.

“This project is one of the first to implement the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism in Vietnam. Moreover, it represents a tangible manifestation of the long-awaited regulatory framework, opening opportunities for sustainable growth in the power generation sector and for large-scale electricity consumers. This mechanism also plays a vital role in fostering a more competitive electricity market,” stated a representative from the project owner, DT5.1 Energy JSC.

“Dầu Tiếng 5 reflects the scale and ambition of Vietnam’s continuously growing solar market,” said Elva Wang, Group Director for South, Southeast, and Central Asia, Trinasolar Asia Pacific. “Trinasolar has supported the development of floating solar in Vietnam since the Dầm Trà ổ project in 2020. Since then, we have continued to expand our experience by working on various large-scale floating solar projects in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Dầu Tiếng 5 is a continuation of that experience on a much larger utility scale, reflecting Trinasolar’s ability to supply modules and provide project support in Vietnam as the country’s solar energy market grows.”

Dầu Tiếng 5 demonstrates the significant potential of floating solar to expand the use of renewable energy in Vietnam. This technology can support large-scale clean energy projects in water-based and semi-submerged areas. Through Dầu Tiếng 5, Trinasolar is also bringing experience from various utility-scale floating solar projects to support the development of this technology in Vietnam.
