Trigger for Younger Sibling Killing Older Sibling in Kelapa Gading: Annoyed by Towel Left in Room
Police have revealed the trigger for the assault committed by MAH (16) against his older brother, MAR (22), using a hammer, resulting in the latter’s death, in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (24/2) at around 5:00 PM, when the siblings were at home.
“The trigger was that the older brother had placed some personal items in the younger brother’s room. Toiletries, a towel, and so on,” said the Head of the Child and Women Protection Unit (PPA) of the North Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Ni Luh Sri Arsini, to reporters on Thursday (26/2).
Sri stated that the victim did not immediately move the items. Even when reprimanded by their mother, the victim still did not move the items.
“When reprimanded by their mother, the older brother responded indifferently, which was unpleasant for the younger brother. This triggered him to become very angry. He then took a hammer from the kitchen and hit his brother on the head while his brother was feeding the animals,” Sri said.
In addition, Sri also mentioned that the perpetrator felt that he was receiving different treatment or attention from his parents.
“The child felt that his parents paid more attention to his older brother,” she said.
According to Sri, at the time of the incident, the perpetrator was allegedly feeling very emotional, leading him to repeatedly hit his brother on the head with a hammer.
“He hit him several times. Because of his emotions, the first hit caused him to fall, but he was hit again almost five more times,” she said.
“He was very emotional. That’s why he released his anger by repeatedly hitting his brother on the head,” she added.
Furthermore, Sri stated that they are still investigating the case. A psychiatric examination of the perpetrator is planned for today.
