The trial period for traffic engineering (lalin) in Kerobokan Kelod and parts of Seminyak, North Kuta District, Badung, Bali, has officially ended. The traffic engineering scheme is now applied permanently since Tuesday (14/4). Drivers who violate it will be immediately subject to fines.

“During the trial, we did not take legal action against violators, and we provided warnings because it was still in the socialisation phase. But now, with this being established, if there are violations, legal sanctions in the form of fines will be imposed by the police,” said Acting Head of the Badung Transportation Department (Dishub), I Made Gede Wiryantara Adi Susandi, on Wednesday (14/4/2026).

This decision was taken after an evaluation period since the trial began on 14 December 2025 in Kerobokan Kelod and 14 February 2026 in Seminyak. This one-way scheme has become permanent because it is considered successful in reducing vehicle traffic density during busy periods such as Christmas holidays, New Year, Eid al-Fitr, and the series of Nyepi Day celebrations.

“All of that went smoothly. That’s what makes us even more convinced that this needs to be made permanent,” Adi added.

The Badung Transportation Department noted that Jalan Merta Agung is one of the points where violations most frequently occur. Many motorcyclists recklessly go against the flow towards the south instead of turning via Jalan Pengubengan Kauh.

“Perhaps later there we will focus on traffic enforcement in the form of fines with the police,” said the secretary of the Badung Transportation Department.

Observations at the location showed that vehicle movement from Jalan Teuku Umar Barat towards the west to Tangkuban Perahu, Kerobokan, appeared congested. This situation occurred due to the meeting of vehicles from the east with vehicles coming from the Pengubengan Kauh junction and Jalan Mertanadi.

The Badung Regency Government, he said, once facilitated dialogue with residents from three affected banjars who had expressed objections through an official letter. Adi emphasised that this policy was taken for the general order.

“For the safety, smoothness, and order of traffic in the Kerobokan Kelod area so that quality tourism in Badung can be realised,” he added.
