Trial of Former PGN CEO Hendi Prio on Gas Corruption Charges Postponed Due to Illness
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The first hearing in the alleged corruption case concerning a gas sales cooperation agreement with the defendant, President Director of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Tbk from 2008–2017, Hendi Prio Santoso, has been postponed because Hendi is ill.
Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Agung Nugroho, explained that Hendi is still in hospital after undergoing prostate surgery.
“Yesterday, I visited him at Abdi Waluyo Hospital and saw the defendant’s condition directly. It turns out he is still ill and it is feared that sitting for too long would cause problems in court,” Agung said when met at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday.
In addition, he said that his side would first wait for a doctor’s letter stating that Hendi has recovered.
Therefore, Agung stated that the postponement of the trial would be carried out until Hendi is fully recovered. Hendi’s detention status remains in effect since 6 March 2026.
In addition to Hendi, the first hearing of the same case was also held for the defendant, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of PT Inti Alasindo Energy (IAE), Arso Sadewo Tjokrosoebroto.
Thus, the hearing with the agenda of reading the indictment continued with the defendant named Arso Sadewo.
In the RKAP (Rencana Kerja dan Anggaran Perusahaan), there was no plan for PT PGN to purchase gas from PT IAE. However, on 2 November 2017, a cooperation document was signed between the two companies after going through several stages.
On 9 November 2017, PT PGN paid a down payment of US$15 million.
Therefore, in that case, the KPK initially named two suspects, namely the Commercial Director of PT PGN for the 2016-2019 period, Danny Praditya, along with the Commissioner of PT IAE for 2006-2023, Iswan Ibrahim.
Both have been sentenced to six years in prison each and a fine of Rp250 million subsidiary six months in prison, on 12 January 2026.
However, Iswan was also subject to additional punishment in the form of restitution to pay US$3.33 million subsidiary three years in prison, as he was proven to be the recipient of the corrupt funds in the amount of the restitution imposed.
Due to the corruption committed by the two defendants, the panel of judges stated that there had been a state loss of US$15 million or equivalent to Rp246 billion (exchange rate Rp16,400 per US dollar) in that case.
On 1 October 2025, the KPK announced Hendi as a suspect and immediately detained him. On 21 October 2025, the KPK then announced suspect status for Arso and also immediately detained the individual.
