Tri Tito Urges PKK Cadres to Drive Safe, Nutritious Food Education Based on Local Marine Potential
Tri Tito Karnavian, the General Chair of the Tim Penggerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (TP PKK), has called on PKK cadres across Indonesia, especially in Alor Regency, to become drivers of increased public understanding of safe and nutritious food based on local potential, including marine products. He said PKK cadres have a strategic position to disseminate knowledge about healthy eating patterns from the family level to the community.
“Regarding the education on healthy, nutritious, diverse, balanced, and safe foods, we hope that you, ladies, will not only listen here but also apply it to your extended families,” he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Friday 22 May 2026.
Tri made the remarks when opening the Education on Safe and Healthy Fish Consumption to Support a Varied, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe Diet (B2SA) at the Hall of the Alor Regency Fisheries and Marine Affairs Office (DKP) Processing, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Thursday 21 May 2026.
According to him, this potential needs to be balanced with understanding of how to process food healthily, safely, and diversely so that its nutritional content can be used optimally, especially to support children’s growth and development.
Tri assessed that many people still process fish in a limited way, for example only by frying or grilling.
Therefore, innovations in the processing of fish-based foods are required to be more varied and appealing to families.
“With this education, we can also process foods from fish sources to be more delicious so that children enjoy consuming them,” he explained.
According to him, changes in the environment and increasing marine pollution make people more careful in selecting fishery products that are safe to consume. Therefore knowledge about which fish species are fit for consumption becomes increasingly important.
Tri also reminded of the importance of safeguarding the sustainability of marine resources so that benefits can be felt sustainably by future generations.
He explained that several marine species are now classified as protected because their populations are threatened due to over-exploitation.
Therefore the public is urged to help maintain the continuity of marine biota by not catching or trading protected species.
“We can collectively urge not to consume prohibited fish, but also call on communities or fishermen not to catch these species because they are protected,” added Tri.
Through these efforts, the public not only gains nutritional benefits from marine products but also plays a role in safeguarding Indonesia’s aquatic ecosystem.
Present at the event were Yane Bima Arya, Senior Expert Staff in Strengthening Family Food Resilience; Niken Tomsi, Senior Expert Staff in Family Economic Resilience, along with other TP PKK executive members; Vera Johni Asadoma, Senior Expert Staff of TP PKK for NTT Province; Lidya Siawan Winaryo, Chair of the Alor Regency TP PKK, and other related parties.
