Chair of the Family Empowerment and Welfare Mobilisation Team (TP PKK), Tri Tito Karnavian, called for efforts to prevent violence during her visit to SMA Negeri 1 Atambua, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Thursday (16/4). On that occasion, she urged students to play an active role in preventing various forms of violence, especially against vulnerable groups such as women and children, whether verbal or direct physical actions. This is because, based on data from Komnas Perempuan, Tri noted that violence against women has increased year by year. In 2023, there were 289,111 cases of violence against women. This figure rose to 330,097 cases in 2024. Then in 2025, it increased by 14.07 percent to 376,529 cases. “At the very least, if we can curb one, prevent one case of violence against one person, we can prevent 150 cases. If this is implemented across all provinces and districts, numbering around 514 [regencies/cities], imagine, we could prevent half a million,” she said during the Socialisation of Protection for Women and Children from Physical and Verbal Violence. Building character Tri explained that the PKK programme being carried out this time is an effort to build character, both in children and parents, through education on various issues still occurring in society. This is because there are still parents whose character is not as expected, so strengthening through such socialisation is needed. “Of course, we also want to avoid being colonised by any form of violent culture. Not only at home, but outside, around us, at school, and so on,” she added. According to her, strong character that is resilient and has high integrity, such as being honest, disciplined, and responsible, is an important provision in facing various challenges.
