Tri Suci Waisak Celebration: Bulungan Buddhist Community Plants Bodhi Trees
Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) — To celebrate the Tri Suci Waisak 2570 Buddhist Era (BE)/2026 Common Era, the Buddhist community of Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province, planted Bodhi trees at Bundayati Botanical Garden in Tanjung Selor.
Hendy Dermawan, chair of the Bodhi tree planting organising committee, representing Bulungan’s Buddhist community, expressed appreciation to the Bulungan Regency Government for providing the space for the tree-planting at Bundayati Botanical Garden.
“We, the Buddhist community of Bulungan Regency, appreciate and thank the efforts and the venue provided for planting Bodhi trees at Bundayati Botanical Garden, held in conjunction with the Tri Suci Waisak celebration,” he said in Tanjung Selor on Sunday.
Hendy explained that the Bodhi tree planting ceremony symbolises collective intention and effort to support Bulungan Regency’s green conservation programme and signifies the Buddhist community’s active participation in the Ministry of Religion’s ecoteology initiative.
“Let us carry out activities that support Bulungan Regency’s programmes in particular,” he added.
Bulungan Regent Syarwani, who attended and participated in the tree-planting, extended his congratulations to all Buddhists in Bulungan Regency for the Tri Suci Waisak celebration.
“May this Tri Suci Waisak celebration bring happiness, better living conditions, and prosperity for all residents of Bulungan Regency, especially to my fellow Buddhists here,” he said.
Syarwani thanked Buddhist leaders and community members for their active role in fostering and developing Bulungan Regency through positive initiatives.
“This is not the first time we have collaborated with the Buddhist community; previously, we conducted patin fish stocking in this area, and we hope it contributes to enhancing the presence of Bundayati Botanical Garden,” Syarwani added.
