Trenggono emphasises Red-White Fishermen's Village can alleviate poverty in East Lombok
East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara — Maritime and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has affirmed that the development of the Red-White Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) is directed towards boosting the economy and alleviating poverty in East Lombok by increasing the productivity of coastal communities.
“The government is building this facility (KNMP in Ekas Buana Village) for the benefit of our people. What benefit? Fighting poverty, which stands at 13 per cent,” Trenggono stated whilst inspecting the KNMP in Ekas Buana, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday.
He highlighted the poverty rate in the region, as noted by East Lombok Regent Haerul Warisin, which remains around 13 per cent, making the presence of production facilities at the KNMP a concrete solution.
According to Trenggono, the government has established these facilities for the people’s benefit so that within the next two years, the poverty rate can be significantly reduced in the area.
He also encouraged fishermen to cease selling lobster larvae and instead cultivate them to generate greater added value and higher incomes.
For fishermen facing constraints such as the lack of fish cages, Trenggono urged them to coordinate immediately with local government and ministry officials to secure support.
