Trend of selling jewellery gold increases ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The trend of selling gold jewellery at several shops in Jakarta is increasing ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE, in line with the public’s needs to meet holiday shopping and various other requirements during that occasion.
One of the owners of Bukit Emas Shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, Jakarta, Juwita, said the trend of gold sales began to feel noticeable around two weeks before Eid, with the number of sellers arriving increasing every day.
“There are quite a few people coming to sell gold jewellery. It seems like it starts getting busy two weeks before Eid,” said Juwita when met by ANTARA in between serving prospective gold buyers in Jakarta on Thursday.
She mentioned that the increase is considered quite busy compared to ordinary days, because many people utilise gold as an asset that can be liquidated to meet needs ahead of Eid.
“This is because there are Eid moments, so people definitely want to use it for shopping and such. Then usually, after Eid moments, it’s said to be good for marriages or whatever, so it’s quite busy (people selling gold),” she explained.
The types of gold sold vary, from jewellery such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces, to gold bars that are also sold by some people to gold shops.
In one day, Juwita estimated that there are around four to five people who come to sell their gold, with the trend continuing to increase as the holiday approaches.
