Trees at TMII
Trees at TMII
From Media Indonesia
The trees planted by the representatives of Non-aligned
countries at TMII (Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park) will be
two years old on Sept. 1, 1994. When I visited the Friendship
Park of the Non-aligned countries I was very pleased to see most
of the trees have thrived. Representing Indonesia, on Sept. 1,
1992 President Soeharto planted a royal banyan tree. The white
banyan was planted by Malaysian representative, green banyan
(Brunei Darussalam), sengon (Congo), pete (Nigeria), buni
(Nepal), sawo duren (Santa Lucia) and many others.
Some of the trees have even produced fruit such as maja hijau
(Gabon), jambu mente (Oman). Other trees are in blossoms and look
very nice.
However, I found that some of the original trees died and have
been replaced with new ones and are still small in size. What is
saddening is that some name boards of the trees have disappeared
so that we could not recognize the countries that planted the
trees. Representatives of certain Non-aligned countries may visit
Indonesia some day and want to have a look at the trees that were
planted by their representatives. They will be disappointed if
they cannot find the names of their countries. In this context I
would like to suggest that the government remedy this matter.
