Tree planting program launched

BANDUNG: The State Minister for the Environment, Nabiel Makarim, kicked off on Tuesday what is being called a "Tree Bank Program" in Banjaran Wetan subdistrict, Bandung regency.

As part of the program, the government, in collaboration with oil and gas firm PT Kaltim Prima Coal (PT KPC), will plant some 22,000 trees of various species on 90 hectares of barren land in the subdistrict. The seeds of avocado, coffee and acacia trees are being provided by PT KPC.

This is the third such program to be held after similar planting programs recently in Temanggung regency, Central Java province, and along the Pesanggrahan River in Jakarta. -- JP
