Tree Planting and Cleaning of Alue Naga Riverbanks

The Aceh Democratic Party Regional Representative Council (DPD) carried out a practical environmental action by planting trees and cleaning the banks of the Alue Naga River in Banda Aceh on Friday (31/07/2026). This activity was organised as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Democratic Party.

The Acting Chairman of the Aceh Democratic Party DPD, Rian Syaf, explained that this action is an implementation of the ‘Blue Sky Indonesia Asri’ movement. This programme is an initiative by the General Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurandum Yudhoyono (AHY), which aims to invite all elements of society to work together in preserving nature.

Rian emphasised that this environmental action holds historical value for the party. According to him, tree planting is a continuation of the environmental care tradition inherited from the 6th President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), and the late Ani Yudhoyono.

“We are continuing the tradition demonstrated by Mr SBY and Mrs Ani. In Banda Aceh, the trembesi trees planted in the past still stand firmly as a trace of environmental concern. Today, we are carrying that spirit forward,” said Rian Syaf during the event.

He asserted that tree planting is not merely an annual ceremonial agenda, but a long-term investment for future generations. “It may not be us who enjoy the shade today, but our children and grandchildren in the future. Planting trees is planting hope, while also inviting all parties to be more concerned about the environment,” he added.

The series of 25th-anniversary activities began with an assembly at the Aceh Democratic Party DPD Office. In addition to the environmental focus at the Alue Naga River, the agenda included other social actions such as blood donations, cleaning places of worship, urban park maintenance, environmental-themed epic readings, and the release of fish seeds into the river.
