Tree felling
From Republika
I am very concerned with the way logs from West Kalimantan are being smuggled into Malaysia. According to the police who intercepted the activity recently, the wood is shipped in thousands of cubic meters.
Timber companies allotted forest concessions have no concern for the forests' ecology. They are exploiting the forests with a ferocity that calls for a halt.
But, how odd it is to learn that in the Kalimantan forest issue the main people blamed for the forest destruction are always the nomadic tribes who used to clear a forest site for one sowing period, then move on to another area afterwards.
I believe that the environmental degradation and ecological destruction by recalcitrant forest concessionaires is no longer acceptable. How much is the country going to suffer if the authorities do not do anything to prevent this from happening?
