Tree Falls on Pickup Truck on Banda Aceh-Medan Road, Seven Killed

A large tree fell and crushed a pickup truck travelling along the Banda Aceh-Medan road, specifically in the Tanjong Krung area of Pidie Regency. A total of seven people died and five others were injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (11/8) at 21.00 WIB. The vehicle, carrying a group of residents from Puli Village, Pidie District, was suddenly struck by the falling old tree.

“The total number of victims is 12, comprising seven fatalities and five injured,” said Bahron Bakti, Chief Executive of the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA), as reported by detikSumut on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Local residents worked together to help evacuate the victims. A joint team was deployed to the location to cut through the wood so that all victims could be taken to hospital.

The incident caused the road access at the location to be temporarily impassable for vehicles. Bahron explained that the surviving victims generally suffered injuries to the head and neck.

The five injured victims are Ahmad Sahir (12), Muhammad Kausar (7.5), M Hidayat (25), Huaidi (10) and Dayat (25). The deceased victims are Zubaidah (60), Nurmawati (50), Rapasah (55), Patimah Wati (47), Salbiah (68), Zainabon (64), and Halimah (68).
