Treatment Not Covered by BPJS: Woman Held Captive by Boyfriend Nearly Discharged Over Rp40 Million Bill, Regent Intervenes
YTR (29), a woman from Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, who was a victim of confinement and physical abuse for three years, was nearly discharged from Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung due to medical cost constraints.
The victim’s family revealed that the treatment bills have reached approximately Rp40 million. However, the medical expenses are reportedly not covered by BPJS Kesehatan (the national health insurance) nor by the Certificate of Poverty (SKTM).
The victim’s brother-in-law, identified by the initial M, stated that the family received information that YTR was requested to be discharged temporarily because there was no certainty regarding the payment of hospital fees.
“YTR was told to go home first. Yesterday, there was a bill from the hospital stating that no payment had been received,” he said, as reported on Monday, 22 June 2026.
M noted that the family was informed that the medical costs could not be covered by BPJS. Furthermore, the use of an SKTM could not be applied for treatment at that specific hospital.
“I know it cannot be covered by BPJS, and SKTM cannot be used either because it is a major hospital; SKTM is usually only applicable in regional hospitals,” he added.
This situation caused significant concern as the victim still requires intensive medical care following the alleged violence she endured.
Responding to the situation, the Regent of Bandung, Dadang Supriatna, visited RSHS Bandung on Monday, 22 June 2026, to meet the victim and ensure that medical treatment continues.
Accompanied by the hospital’s board of directors, Dadang engaged in direct dialogue with the victim’s family. He expressed his deep concern regarding the case involving YTR, noting that the incident serves as an important reminder for the community to increase social awareness.
“On behalf of the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung Regency Government, I feel distressed by this unexpected event. This serves as a warning for all of us to look out for one another,” said Dadang.
He ensured that the local government would assist in the medical financing process in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and regulations.
“Regarding the financing, we will assist in managing it according to the existing provisions and regulations. The patient/victim will continue to be served and cared for until they recover,” he asserted.
Dadang mentioned that YTR is still undergoing treatment in an isolation ward under the supervision of her family. Based on monitoring results and reports from the medical team, the victim’s condition is beginning to show positive progress.
