Access for tourists in Southeast Asia to international hotel networks is expanding following a strategic partnership between a digital travel platform and a global hospitality group. The collaboration is expected to simplify the search and booking process for accommodation, offering a wider selection and real-time pricing updates.

Traveloka has entered into a partnership with Marriott International, which manages more than 10,000 properties across 146 countries and territories. Through this agreement, Traveloka officially becomes a Certified Online Travel Partner for Marriott, enabling the hotel group’s inventory to be directly connected to Traveloka’s online distribution platform.

John Toomey, Chief Commercial Officer for Marriott International in Asia Pacific excluding China, stated that the partnership provides greater ease for travellers in Indonesia and Southeast Asia to access a diverse range of Marriott accommodations, from luxury brands such as JW Marriott and W Hotels to premium brands like Westin and Sheraton, and select-service brands including Moxy and Four Points. He noted that the collaboration arrives as the tourism industry in Southeast Asia is experiencing rapid growth, making it one of the fastest-developing travel markets globally.

Toomey added that Indonesia remains one of the most prospective markets for Marriott International in the Asia Pacific region. The company continues to see opportunities to expand its network and offer more brand choices and stay experiences for travellers. He said the collaboration with Traveloka strengthens the ability to reach travellers at every stage of their journey, making the process of finding and booking accommodation more seamless.

The outlook for the region’s tourism industry is expected to strengthen further. The value of the Southeast Asian tourism industry is projected to rise from US$35.5 billion in 2025 to US$67.4 billion by 2031, contributing approximately 15.4 per cent to global travel demand. Through direct integration between Marriott and Traveloka, the reach of various Marriott properties in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia is anticipated to broaden. Marriott currently operates nearly 90 hotels in Indonesia and continues to grow its portfolio through several development projects. Regionally, expansion is also underway in potential markets such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia through 2030.

Toomey revealed that Traveloka users’ interest in Marriott hotels has been steadily increasing in recent months, as reflected in the growth of searches for various Marriott properties on the platform. Among the most sought-after hotels are Four Points in Makassar, Surabaya, Medan, and Bandung, as well as several Sheraton and Marriott Hotels properties.

Traveloka’s Chief Financial Officer, Yady Guitana, said the company continues to strive to deliver a more personalised booking experience by helping travellers find accommodation that suits their needs. He emphasised that the ability to understand customer preferences even before they formulate their travel plans is one of Traveloka’s key strengths. Guitana added that Marriott’s decision to expand its portfolio reach through Traveloka reflects confidence in the platform’s ability to connect with travellers across Southeast Asia. The combination of Marriott’s hotel portfolio with Traveloka’s regional data and AI-based recommendation technology is expected to deliver a more relevant booking experience for customers while supporting Marriott’s business growth in the region. Through the synergy of digital technology, regional networks, and the strength of a global hospitality portfolio, both companies are optimistic about providing added value for travellers and driving the growth of the tourism ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
