Travel Driver Molested Passenger in Southwest Sumba After Vehicle Emptied
Police have disclosed the chronology of the alleged molestation of passenger Theresia Tamo Inna (22) by travel driver Yohanes Umbu Sogara (45). The incident took place inside the vehicle while Yohanes was transporting Theresia to her home in Pu’u Tame Hamlet, Wee Rena Village, Kota Tambolaka District, Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The incident began when the victim had just returned from Bali, according to Southwest Sumba Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Iptu Yakobus Kokleo Sanam. The sexual assault occurred around 09.00 WITA on Wednesday (3/6/2026), after Theresia had arrived from Bali at Lede Kalumbang Waitabula Airport. She asked to be taken home, but other passengers requested to be dropped off first in the Kodi area. Yohanes complied, and Theresia was also taken to Kodi. Once all other passengers had alighted, only Theresia remained in the vehicle. During the journey, specifically at Watu Kawula Hamlet, Kota Tambolaka District, Yohanes began molesting Theresia by squeezing her left and right thighs, touching her underarms and cheeks, and kissing her hand. The assault continued from Kodi until they reached her home. Upon arrival, Theresia immediately recounted her ordeal to her family, who promptly reported the matter to the Southwest Sumba Police. A viral five-minute, ten-second video previously showed the travel driver allegedly harassing a female passenger inside his vehicle during the journey. In the footage, the woman, wearing a black shirt with dreadlocked hair, is seated beside the driver, who is dressed in a yellow shirt and black cap. The driver can be heard telling her to speak only when spoken to. Recorded by the victim on her mobile phone, the video shows the driver repeatedly touching her thigh and attempting to kiss her while laughing loudly. The woman visibly resisted his advances. The harassment ceased only upon reaching a destination, after which the driver exited the vehicle whilst the victim continued recording in silence. Police confirmed the incident seen in the viral video matches the official report lodged by the victim on Wednesday (3/6/2026) and that the case is being handled by the PPA Unit of the Southwest Sumba Police Criminal Investigation Division.
