Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – If you are starting to tire of the same old holiday destinations, you might consider a new one: outer space. Travel beyond Earth is no longer science fiction, as a Chinese travel agency is now offering it.

Travel group Trip.com has opened bookings for a six-day space tourism package. It is being offered in partnership with US aerospace company Virgin Galactic, which will provide the spacecraft for the journey.

The trip costs 5.1 million yuan. The package includes pre-flight training, ground transport, luxury accommodation in the US, a specialised spacesuit and a recording of the flight.

Training will take three days at Spaceport America. On the fifth day, passengers will take a 90-minute suborbital flight, including a few minutes of weightlessness and views of the Earth’s curvature, The Star reported on Monday (26 October 2026).

The price does not include return flights to the US, specialist private spaceflight insurance or a visa.

The service has prompted a range of reactions. Wei Changren, founder of the tourism finance news platform btiii.com, said the package targets a niche market and requires substantial wealth, good physical health and a high tolerance for risk.

“This product serves a very specific global niche,” Changren said.

The high price is also a consideration for Li Xing, an extreme sports enthusiast from Beijing. He acknowledged that the package offers ordinary people a rare adventure without requiring formal astronaut training.

“If I were rich enough, I would sign up. But it is too expensive for me,” he said.
