Travel ban sought for Banten governor

TANGERANG: The prosecutor's office has proposed a travel ban for Banten Governor Djoko Munandar, who has been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case.

"We have sent the request to the Attorney General's Office on Monday," head prosecutor Kemas Yahya Rachman said on Tuesday.

The governor and five former councillors are suspects in the alleged misuse of Rp 14 billion (US$1.5 million) of the 2003 budget allotted to develop a housing complex for councillors and welfare funds for the councillors.

As the new councillors started duty in October, there is no trace of the housing compound.

"As of today we still can't detain the governor because we have yet to question him as a suspect in the case," Kemas said.

He added that the governor would be questioned as a suspect on Thursday. --JP
