Trash Heap at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility Collapses, Buries Trucks and a Stall
Bekasi — A mound of waste at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City collapsed on Sunday (8 March 2026). The incident circulated in several videos posted on social media showing the waste pile tumbling within the Bantargebang TPST area. In the circulating footage, the waste heap can be seen falling and partially covering a section of the road.
‘It happened again, brothers and sisters, the rubbish collapsed. The rubbish that collapsed nearby yesterday has fallen on trucks again. There are many vehicles buried here,’ said a resident who filmed the incident. The vehicles were parked to unload their waste cargo.
‘There are still many along this stretch; there is a queue of trucks waiting to unload. There are many trucks there, and there is a warung and all sorts of things here,’ the resident added.
Kiswatiningsih, head of Bekasi City’s Environmental Service (LH), said officials were still handling the incident at the site. ‘At the moment it is being handled, so we cannot provide much information yet,’ Kiswatiningsih said when contacted on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, said the collapse occurred in Zone 4 of Bantargebang TPST. Three people died in this incident. To date, officers are still conducting on-site data collection as it is suspected that there are still waste trucks and a stall buried under debris. ‘We are still collecting data and there are still many waste trucks buried and stalls at the site,’ she said.
